If you have ever seen a cooking episode or segment with Paula Deen, then you probably weren’t all that surprised to hear that the Queen of Butter had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. But what you might have been surprised at was that this diagnosis was 3 years old!
While I am a complete proponent of letting celebrities keep their personal lives personal, there seems to be a bit of a disconnect here because of the style of cooking (and eating) she promotes. It’s like a vegan telling me how delicious this rack of lamb is. And Paula’s lack of announcing her diabetes diagnosis three years ago has a lot of fans, health professionals, diabetics and pretty much everyone else up in arms. Read the rest of this entry…
Let’s face it, there are so many things that suck about solo-parenting. When you are used to having someone there, in the trenches with you, even the smallest battles can seem huge when you’re battling on your now for a few days.
And, while I could focus on all those things that suck, I thought I would maybe shed some light on the other side. The positive parts of solo-parenting. Yes, I’m aware that this will be a short post. Read the rest of this entry…
Me: Abbi, please go wash your hands and face if you’re done eating.
Her: Ok.
Bathroom door shuts. Thirty seconds later, the door opens and she strolls out.
Me: Abbi, did you wash your hands and face?
Her: Yup! Read the rest of this entry…
I am continually amazed at how many times I am called by doctor offices or other service providers and asked if I can reschedule an upcoming appointment. I don’t know if it’s just me, but this happens all the time! Or at least it feels like it.
Sometimes it’s rescheduling an upcoming appointment: I’m so sorry Stacey, it looks like doctor is going to be out of the office on that date now. Ok, I understand. Seminars come up. Awesome vacation deals are hard to pass up. No problem. Let’s reschedule. Read the rest of this entry…
It took about a month longer than expected, but we finally have snow in Michigan. The funny thing about Michigan weather is that, as unpredictable as the snow’s arrival is, it’s departure is even more so! Regardless, over the next few months, we are sure to have a few snow days!
So, what do you do to keep your kids busy on snow days? Read the rest of this entry…
Last year Abbi and I made this little Nativity scene, inspired by the clay pot Nativity craft from GRKids.com.
This year, we are adding to our Nativity by creating some shepherds and sheep. Specifically we are creating 2 of each because Zoe is old enough to participate. Let’s get started! Read the rest of this entry…
When you have a baby at home, the Holidays can become a bit more….tricky. Whether you are prepping a big family dinner, setting out hors d’oeuvres for the party with your friends, or crafting with the older kids, it is inevitable that the baby is going to want to be one place — your arms!
I’ve worn Talon the most out of all three kids. Partly because I’m trying to do stuff and keep up with the older kids, but mostly because he’s a snuggler. And he likes his mama’s arms. So, often times during the week, I’m putting on one of our carriers or wraps. And he’s happy as can be!

Every year we take the kids to see Santa. We’ve fallen into a pattern of taking them to see Santa at Home & Company each year. He is such a great Santa! I wrote all about why we go there last year. So, this year I’m just going to share the pictures with you!
The girls loved chatting it up with Santa. Talking about his workshop and Mrs. Clause.

Merry Christmas, Katie! You just one an Interactive Story Buddy from Hallmark!
My girls love books. And they love stories about Christmas! Matter of fact, our books about Christmas stay on their book shelf all year long and often times get read in the middle of the summer, as well this time of year.
Their very favorite story is the Christmas Story, the story of Jesus’ birth. I love that they want to hear it over and over again. That they know it almost by heart!
Their next favorite books/stories are those that have a tangible character. Typical for their ages, I think, they can connect to a story if they can see and feel one of the characters. For example, last year Santa brought them each a plush moose (a boy and a girl) and a book that featured the brother and sister moose in a story about Christmas. They love holding on to their moose as we read that book! And it remains one of their favorites! Read the rest of this entry…
Having two girls in the house, fashion seems to be a way of life. We range from wanting to wear the most pouffy and frilliest of dresses to pairing the most unlikely of pieces. It is always a gamble when I ask the girls to go to their room and get dressed by themselves. Sometimes they can be very creative with their ensembles!
And shopping for these girls is so unbelievably easy! Have you ever tried shopping for kids? It is amazing the expansive selection you can find for a little or baby girl. So much more than the boys’ section! I never really thought about this until having a little boy myself and trying to find clothes for him!
